ANNA GRACE DOUGHTY BAILEY, daughter of Joseph and Elnora Doughty, was born May 14, 1922 in Wardtown, Virginia.  She departed this life, Monday, January 11, 2010 in the Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital, Nassawadox, Virginia.

Anna received her education in the public schools of Northampton County and graduated from Northampton County High School in 1942.  Upon graduating, she was employed in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania until she was married.  Anna later worked in primary education in the Northampton County public school system for over 20 years.  She had a great passion for teaching and always went above and beyond the call of duty to ensure her students’ success.

In 1944, she met and was united in Holy Matrimony to Roland Prentis Bailey, Sr. and from this union, Brenda Bailey White and Roland Prentis Bailey, Jr. were born.  Anna and Roland also raised a nephew, James Bailey as their son.  They enjoyed 61 years of marriage.  Anna was an active member of Ebenezer Baptist Church where she served as a Deaconess, Director of the Vacation Bible School program, Choir and Missionary Member.  Anna was an amazing woman who lived her life according to God’s word.  She served as the Matriarch of her family and never tired of being a caregiver and loyal friend.  She enjoyed cooking large meals for her family as a gesture of her love, baking and cake decorating, arts & crafts, shopping, traveling and constantly helping and giving to those in need.  Anna was full of life and was rarely seen without a smile on her face.

Anna was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.  She was predeceased by her husband Roland Prentis Bailey, Sr. and stepson Raymond Lee Bailey.  Anna leaves to cherish her memory:  her daughter, Brenda and son, Roland; Cecelia whom she considered her daughter; her daughters-in-law, Sharone and Anne; her son-in-law, Marvin, her brother, Joseph, her sisters, Eunice and Flossie, six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, six sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
