O b i t u a r y
HAZEL BAILEY HARMON was born to the late Rosa Rivers and Joseph Laster Rivers May 12, 1912 in Norfolk Virginia.  She began her education in the public school system.  She began her Christian experience at the Bethel Baptist Church, Franktown where she became a member at an early age under the late Rev. L.L. Ford.   While attending Bethel Baptist she became an active member of the Women’s Willing Workers until her health began to fail.

Upon moving to the Eastern Shore Virginia, she met and married the late James Bailey.  To this union, they were blessed with thirteen children: James H. Bailey(deceased), Emma Nottingham of Treherneville, Virginia, Rosa Bailey(deceased), Hannah Cypress of Treherneville, Virginia, Elizabeth Bailey(deceased), Lola M. Collins of Machipongo, Virginia, Hazel B. Upshur of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Thelma L. Creque(deceased), Dorothy M. Bailey of Milton, Delaware, Glydis A. Smith of Milton, Delaware, Stella R. Bailey of Marionville, Virginia, Ronald Bailey of Milton, Delaware, Dan G. Bailey of Cedar Hill, Texas.

She became acquainted with and later married, former friend, the late Mr. Edward Harmon.

On Sunday night March 7, 2004, Hazel entered into eternal rest.  Along with her surviving children, she leaves to cherish fond memories:  thirty-six grandchildren, forty-six great grandchildren and ten great-great grandchildren; one sister,  Queenie Lewis of Milton, DE; one Aunt, Ruth Upshur of Newport News, VA; one daughter-in-law; two sisters-in-law; three sons-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
