Obituary
James Alfred Johnson, son of the late Lilton Sturgis and Dorothy Johnson was born in Northampton County, Virginia January 10, 1924. He departed this life September 12, 2002 at the Shore Life Care Nursing home, Parksley, Virginia

He was reared in the area of his birth and attended the public schools of Northampton County. He served an honorable military tour in the United States army during World War II. After completing his military tour James returned to Northampton County and married the late Frances Sarah Baines This union was blessed with four children of whom James spoke of very often to friends and acquaintances.

James worked numerous jobs within the county but is best known for his work as a carpenter and his humorous wit.

He leaves to cherish his memory: one daughter, Dorothy Mae Taylor   Marlboro, Maryland; three sons Alfred Johnson, Jr., Landover, Maryland, Michael Johnson, Nassawadox, Virginia and Gregory Johnson Upper Marlboro, Maryland; a mother-in-law, Ella Banes; one son-in-law Larry Taylor; three daughter – laws, Ynetta Johnson, Effie Johnson and Pennie Johnson; three brothers, Billie Sturgis, Willie Sturgis and James Allen Giddens; eight sisters, Lucille Evans, Virginia Upshur, Mattie white, Rosie Mae Holmes, Cordia Giddens, Jeanette Giddens, Peggy Giddens and Ronnie Giddens; eight grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
