DOROTHY SAMPLE LEWIS, a resident of Belle Haven died at her home on Friday, January 17, 2003.
Born and reared in Exmore, Virginia, Mrs. Lewis was the daughter of the late Arthur Sample, Sr. and Mary Wharton.  She was educated in the public school system of Northampton County. 
She married the late Charlie Lewis, Sr. and became a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. D. E. Hardy.  There she sang on the Senior Choir.
In 1964, she and her family moved to Oyster Bay, New York where she joined the Mount Olive Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Ralph Whitfield.  There she served as president of Choir #2 until she returned to the shore in 1974.  Here, she worked as supervisor at American Original.  She restored her membership with New Mt. Calvary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Jeffery L. Smith.  There she sang with the Senior Choir until her illness in 1995 when her daughter Barbara took her back to New York.
In 2001, she returned to the Shore and remained a faithful member of New Mt. Calvary Baptist Church and a recognizable member of the Senior Coir until her final call to sing in the heavenly choir where she will sing forever.
Mrs. Lewis is survived by: her three daughters, Nancy Teague (James) of Salisbury, Maryland, Barbara Tolliver (Ruell) of Belle Haven, Virginia, and Bessie Lewis of Brooklyn, New York; two sons, Charlie Lewis, Jr. (Rita) and Bryan Lewis of Orlando, Florida; three sisters, Mary Pink Custis, Juanita Maddox and Helen Brisco (James) of Exmore, Virginia; one brother, Arthur Sample, II (Martha) of Treherneville, Virginia; two sisters-in-law, Gladys Sample of Belle Haven and Emma Sample of Pocomoke, Maryland; an uncle; an aunt; eighteen grandchildren; thirty-five great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; a number of nieces and nephews; many other relatives and friends.
