MILDRED STEWART ROWLEY, the daughter of the late Bailey Stewart and Annie Savage Stewart, was born in Northampton County, Virginia November 5, 1933.  She entered the realm of eternal rest February 2, 2006 in the Heritage Hall Health Care Nassawadox, Virginia.

Mildred was reared in the area of her birth and received her formal education form the Northampton county Public Schools.  She was a member of the New Mount Calvary Baptist Church where she served faithfully in the choir.  She loved singing and watching sports on TV, such as basketball, baseball and especially wrestling – she would miss a meal to watch a wrestling match and at times would playfully put her husband, Robert in a headlock.   She was endeared to the hearts of many through her warm smiles and jovial spirit.  Mildred was widely known among the younger citizens of the county through the many contacts she made as a school bus driver, which she enjoyed for a number of years.

Mildred was predeceased by a son, Robert W. Rowley, Jr. and two brothers, Edward and Willie Stewart.

She leaves to cherish many memories: her husband, Robert W. Rowley, Sr.; two sons, Alvin Rowley, Richmond, VA and Kurtis L. Rowley, Birdsnest, VA; grandchildren, Morita Rowley, Philippines, Bray Rowley, Australia, Sherie Jacob, Eastville, VA, Taryn, Anyssa, Glenn, and Adam Rowley, Camarillo, CA; step grandchildren, Eric and Jamara, Birdsnest, VA; great-grandchildren, Charmed Angel and Godwin, Philippines; sisters, Inez Palmer and Virginia Stewart, Seaford, DE; sisters-in-law, Armella Tate, Salisbury, MD, Miriam Stewart, Trenton, NJ, Minnie George, Atlanta, GA, Mary Hughes, Fairview, VA; brothers-in-law, Henry Palmer, Sr., Seaford, DE, Claude Rowley, Treherneville, VA, Carey Rowley, Little Boston, VA, and Carl Rowley, Cheriton, VA; a host of nieces and nephews and cousins; special friends, Alberta Church, Wardtown, VA, Kathy Jacob, Eastville, VA, Kathy Dunton, Hare Valley, VA, and many more.

I’d like the memory of me
to be a happy one.
I’d like to leave an afterglow
of smiles when life is done.

I’d like to leave an echo
whispering softly down the ways
of happy times and laughing times
and bright and sunny days.

I’d like the tears of those who grieve,
to dry before the sun
of happy memories that I leave
when life is done.
