Obituary
The sun rose for Helen Dixon Smith on December 28, 1905 in Townsend, Virginia.  She was the eldest and last living child born to the late John and Gracie Stevens Dixon.
During her early years, she married the late George E. Smith.  This union was blessed with four children: Mary Ann, Willie Louise, George Leonard (who preceded her in death), and Marvin Thomas.
Helen accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, Capeville, Virginia.  She attended regularly until her health began to fail.  Although she was the oldest member, her willingness to assist in anyway possible was first and foremost.  She never missed an opportunity to “have her say” and to give her opinion whether solicited or not.  She also attended the Senior Citizen Group at Northampton County until her health failed.
Miss Helen, Ma Helen, Mama, Grandma, Grandma Helen, Granny, and Aunt Helen are all titles that she was affectionately called.  Her memory will be lasting to all who came in contact with her.  Her sense of humor, sharp mental capacity, and her winning personality always put a smile on your face and left laughter in your heart.
She loved to shop and travel.  She never missed an opportunity to get out, go “up the road”, across the bay, or ride in a vehicle- wherever it was going.
Sunset for Helen was Monday, September 22, 2003.  To God be the glory for the years that she touched our lives.  We are thankful to God for allowing her to be here for ninety-seven years and nine months.
She leaves to cherish her memory: two daughters, Mary A. Powell (Ann) and husband (Sam), Cobb Station, VA. and Willie Williams (Bill), Fairview, VA.; a son, Marvin T. Smith (Tee), Culls, VA.; a daughter-in-law, Jessie Mae Smith, Philadelphia, PA.; an adopted brother, Alvin Wilson, Camben, SC; ten grandchildren, Mosi, Irene. Lilia, Brenda, George, Jr.; Roosevelt III (Jayboy), Michael, Cornell, Levern, and William, Jr.; twenty-one great-grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; two brothers-in-law, Isaac and Charles Smith; two sisters-in-law, Bishop Helen O. Gillis and Viola Parks; nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
